Have you spent hours in the gym trying to get that body that you see staring back at you on all the glamour and fitness magazines? Have not gotten there yet have you. Well, you will not until you read this article. Because I am going to tell you about an ab workout that you have probably did not even existed and it only lasts 4 minutes.
You see many people resort to crunches and sit ups and other things to work their abs. This is great to build muscle, however the problem most of us have is that they need to burn the fat that is obscuring their abs and you cannot spot reduce body fat. The fact of the matter is that if you want to see your abs you need to be below 10% body fat if you are a man and 16% if you are a woman, and sit ups and crunches just do not burn enough calories.
Consequently, all those sit ups and crunches you were doing really did not even make a dent in your fat loss goals. In fact, even if you spent an entire hour on the Stairmaster (I know) you will only burn about 500 calories and you will have 3,000 to go to burn a single pound of fat.
So, the trick is to turn your body into a fat burning furnace o that it is burning calories at a higher rate throughout the day. One of the best ways to do this is by using a piece of weight lifting equipment known as a kettlebell (KB). This looks like a cannonball with a handle and is ideal for swinging which is exactly what we are going to do with it.
Swinging the KB between your legs with one hand of two and thrusting out with your hips will work your abdominals as well as the other muscles of your core. Because there is an added cardiovascular element there are fat burning benefits that are just nonexsitant in other ab exercises. In fact, you can burn up to 20 calories a minute with a KB.
But, here is the kicker. We are going to do KB swings in a exercise format known as the Tabata protocol. Developed in the 1990s by Dr. Izumi Tabata it is simply doing a high intensity exercise (in this case KB swings) for 8 periods of 20 seconds with only a 10 second rest in between. By doing this you will effectively raise your fat burning capacity for the next 24 hours.
